Are Ferroelectric Crystals Blaze-Gratings for Electrons?

By means of electron holography, phase shifts of electron waves due to domains in ferroelectric crystals can be observed. For interpretation in terms of strength and direction of the ferroelectric polarization, one has to evaluate the specific interactions. However, the mechanism producing this phase shift of electrons is not yet completely understood. We propose and analyze a simple model using only ferroelectric dipole fields, which essentially turns out an analogon of a blaze grating in light optics.

Keywords: ferroelectric, electrons, blaze-gratings
