The elastic properties of lithium tetraborate Li2B4O7 single crystals have been studied by Brillouin scattering method. Using this method the propagation of the acoustic waves in the [100], [001], [110] and [011] directions has been estimated. The nonlinear optical coefficients d31 and d33 were measured using the Maker fringe technique. The temperature dependence of the nonlinear optical coefficient d31 does not confirm an earlier report on the existence of a phase transition in the temperature range from room temperature to 600°C.
